BRIAN BUTLER
songwriter, blues singer, guitarist
BUTLER'S BLUES
Solo blues of Brian's current exciting blues show. All songs written by Brian except as noted.
Recorded February to June 2018 up in the attic at Butler's place. A couple of condensor mics, Reaper recording software, a Focusrite A/D digital converter and a PC and the producer/artist hat was passed around.
The recording captures Brian's soulful live performances. Harmonica, acoustic guitar and national steel guitars and occasional electric guitars create a variety of Brian's blues.

Notes about the songs:
  1. Johnny Young was a great Chicago singer with a big voice and played a fierce mandolin in addtion to guitar. Played a lot on Maxwell Street.
  2. Mississippi Woman - Took a trip to the Mississippi Delta last year and this song was inspired by that mysterious place, especially Yazoo City.
  3. Wrote Snow River about a troubled river. Loosely based on the Sammamish River although it could describe the fate of many rivers.
  4. Lead A Horse To Water - Writer Earl Thomas is from San Diego. Check him out. This is one of his fine songs.
  5. Taking the Train - Every songwriter needs a song about a train.
  6. Atomic Bomb - Woke up one morning with the lyrics running through my head.
  7. The Race Is Over - Rockin' little blues.
  8. Oxbow Blues - Instrumental number. John Fahey was a big influence. Maybe a little of him in this one.
  9. The News About Billy - Audiences always ask for this one. We all know a Billy.
  10. A Nickel and A Nail - Great R & B song that O.V. Wright recorded. Had to do it.
  11. River Roads - Good place to be.
  12. Yonder Comes the Blues - Great little city blues by Fred Neil. Enjoyed this one a whole lot.
  13. Place Pigalle - A guitar version of this song that I played on piano on my previous album, WAIT ALL NIGHT. Used to play the Pigalle in the Pike Pl Market back, late 70's, early 80's. A real place where the blues were going down.
